"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

This painting by Kristina Česonytė is playful and unique. It shows a pink background with bold, black lines outlining figures. These figures are simplified and abstract, with round shapes and distinct features such as flowers in their hair. Kristina uses minimalistic detail to express her ideas, using just two colors primarily. The artwork feels fresh and modern. There's a dynamic feel from how the figures are arranged, as if they are in motion or interacting. It's part of a series called "Today My Venus Was Born," suggesting themes of birth, beauty, and feminine identity in a contemporary style. Kristina's work often explores such themes with a touch of wit and humor.
