"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

In this painting, there are various figures. Some are people, others are animals. An elephant, octopus, and leopard stand out. Feathers, fur, and tentacles create a lively scene. The people and animals are interacting in different ways. Some lie, others stand or move. Kristina Česonytė uses simple lines and soft colors. The colors are not too bright. There's a sense of whimsy and fantasy. The artist mixes human and animal elements creatively. The style feels abstract but also playful. It suggests a world where boundaries blur.
