"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

This painting by Kristina Česonytė is intriguing. The background is a soft pink, which feels warm. In the foreground, a large abstract figure emerges. The figure is outlined in bold, dark strokes. It has a profile that resembles a creature or monster. The colors within it are light blues and greens. The brushstrokes are broad and expressive. Česonytė uses a style that's both abstract and expressive. The lines suggest movement and energy. It feels dynamic and alive. The painting plays with the idea of form and perception. It's a part of her "Monster Series," exploring unique and imaginative figures. It engages the viewer to think and feel.
