About the artist
Painting for me is a full breath of life.“
From his school years onward, Irmantas Degutis has favored signing his creations with the initials i.DE, a mark that remains with him throughout his artistic path. He considers himself a happy individual, deriving satisfaction from the simple fact that life unfolds as it does. To Irmantas, the allure of life lies in its imperfections; he finds no necessity for flawlessness to admire the magnificence of the world. This deep sense of contentment shapes both his perspective on life and his artistic endeavors.
For Irmantas, painting has never served as an escape or a solution for any perceived void. Instead, his foray into art sprang from a true wish to communicate his inner world, driven by a curiosity about the decisions and motivations of other artists. Very quickly, painting became his passion and pastime, granting him opportunities to encounter fresh sensations and viewpoints that enliven his everyday life. He is inspired not only by his own feelings and experiences, but also by significant global concerns—climate change, war, terrorism, and hunger—all of which continually ignite his creative spirit.
Though he has never attended an art academy and his routine is largely unconnected to the art world, Irmantas paints out of an irresistible need. He gathers material from the present, capturing his immediate thoughts and environment. His method involves extensive reflection before he starts a new canvas, taking time to crystallize his purpose. Once his vision becomes clear, he allows a sense of freedom to guide the colors and shapes, searching for the ideal instant to conclude his work. For Irmantas, self-acceptance of what he creates is most important; appreciation from others is an additional pleasure.
Abstract expressionism holds a special appeal for Irmantas. He enjoys exploring how the interaction of color, hue, form, and motion animates his canvases. Avoiding fashions and prescribed methods, he lets honesty, vibrant energy, and lengthy introspection permeate his paintings. Recently, he has been contemplating the principle "Less is More," persistently investigating how simplicity enhances his visual message. His overarching goal is to breathe vigor, visual allure, and a genuine sense of movement into every artwork.
